Saint-Leger-les-Melezes
The Natural Ski VillageMagnificent, by nature
The forest is what makes Saint-Léger-les-Mélèzes stand out. Almost fairylike under its white coat, it characterises the ski village and pistes with a unique, magical, mountain charm. The highest point of the ski village is the summit of the Cuchon. It is easily accessible and offers a breathtaking view of the Champsaur valley and the Vieux Chaillol massif, the Petite and Grande Autane mountains, and the plateau of Ancelle. A magnificent tour of the horizon to be enjoyed whilst skiing in powder… or whilst paragliding !
Have some fun !
In the heart of wild and unspoiled nature, the ski village of Saint-Léger-les-Mélèzes thrives on winter sports ! Technical or easy, there are ski pistes for all levels. And the numerous trails criss-crossing the forest are a winter sports playground for all: dog sledding, tobogganing, ski joering,.. and more. Between two descents, try new sensations on a snake sledge (a segmented sledge that descends the pistes), snow tubing (big inflatable tubes to race down on) or on a yooner (halfway between sledging or skiing). At the foot of the pistes the Fun Park offers numerous activities for young and old… and there’s even a natural ice rink in the village.
The ‘must try’ experience for nature lovers
The enchanted cabins
Their name alone is the stuff of dreams… « Troll Den » or « Elf Cabin » you decide !! Situated in the heart of the ski village with direct access to the pistes, these new and unique wooden cabins on stilts have all you could imagine for a magical stay. Family friendly with all mod cons and even a private spa on the terrace, Gilles Houdot and his wife’s enchanted cabins can accommodate up to 6 people for a fairytale night or longer stay.
The refuge des animaux
At Saint-Léger-les-Mélèzes nature is everywhere and there’s a museum dedicated to it. Installed in an ancient farm the Refuge des Animaux is a fantastic showcase for wildlife, especially mountain animals. Ibex, chamois, birds of prey, marmots….. the collection includes more than 300 stuffed animals, birds and reptiles as well as an impressive array of butterflies and insects. The eco-museum’s fun and educational lesson on biodiversity is also boosted with temporary exhibitions in painting and photography. It is part of a network of eco-museums in the Champsaur-Valgaudemar.
